Who this is for
California teens under 18 working toward a provisional license.
Why California requires this course
In California, anyone applying for a provisional permit before turning 18 has to complete an approved driver education course first. It is not optional, and the DMV will not issue the permit without the completion certificate.
The course is the classroom half of the requirement. The behind-the-wheel half is the six hours of professional training you take with us here in Ventura County.
How it fits with your lessons
Most families do the online course first, then start behind-the-wheel lessons once the permit is in hand. You do not have to wait until the course is finished to book with us, but the permit has to be issued before the first lesson.
What the course covers
- California traffic laws and right-of-way rules
- Signs, signals and roadway markings
- Provisional license restrictions for drivers under 18
- Impairment, distraction and collision avoidance
- The permit test material, section by section
