What this course covers, and what it does not
- This is the theory portion of Entry-Level Driver Training. It is delivered online and completed at your own pace.
- You will also need behind-the-wheel training from a separate provider. Life Safety Driving School does not provide CDL behind-the-wheel instruction.
- The training provider for this course is GetDriversEd, not Life Safety Driving School.
Federal rules require that ELDT training come from a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry. You can look up any provider on the registry before you buy.

Drivers who already hold a Class B CDL and are upgrading to Class A.
Upgrading is a covered event
The Entry-Level Driver Training rule does not only apply to first-time applicants. Upgrading from Class B to Class A triggers it too, even though you already hold a commercial license and have been driving professionally.
The upgrade curriculum is shorter than a full Class A course, because it assumes what you already know from Class B and concentrates on what combination vehicles add.
What changes with a combination vehicle
Most of the added material is about the articulation point: coupling and uncoupling, how a trailer tracks through a turn, how weight shifts under braking, and how a combination behaves in a skid.
What the course covers
- Coupling and uncoupling procedures
- Combination vehicle air brake systems
- Off-tracking, turning and backing a trailer
- Weight distribution and cargo securement for combinations
- Skid control and recovery in a combination vehicle
