What this course covers, and what it does not

  • This is the theory portion of Entry-Level Driver Training. It is delivered online and completed at your own pace.
  • You will also need behind-the-wheel training from a separate provider. Life Safety Driving School does not provide CDL behind-the-wheel instruction.
  • The training provider for this course is GetDriversEd, not Life Safety Driving School.

Federal rules require that ELDT training come from a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry. You can look up any provider on the registry before you buy.

Who this is for

CDL holders adding a passenger endorsement.

Carrying people changes the standard

The passenger endorsement covers vehicles designed to carry 16 or more people including the driver. Adding it for the first time is covered by the Entry-Level Driver Training rule.

The training reflects what changes when the cargo is people: how you brake, how you take a corner, what you do at a stop, and what is expected of you in an evacuation.

Theory here does have a behind-the-wheel counterpart

Unlike hazmat, the passenger endorsement has both a theory and a behind-the-wheel requirement. This course is the theory half. You will need the behind-the-wheel portion from a registered provider before the endorsement can be issued.

What the course covers

  • Passenger vehicle pre-trip inspection
  • Loading, unloading and passenger management
  • Braking, cornering and following distance with passengers aboard
  • Emergency exits and evacuation procedures
  • Prohibited practices and required announcements
